My eyes are watering, my nose is stuffed, my skin is lizard-dry.

That can only mean one thing: Spring is here.

It might still be in the mid-forties here in Ohio, but that’s not stopping us at The Company from hosting a Spring Writing Challenge!

Now, if you’re like me, you might be thinking, “I don’t know, Lucy… I don’t think I’m prepared to go up against other writers. I’m busy and I’m not exactly the best writer in the tristate area!”

But that’s the awesome thing about this challenge: You’re going up against yourself.

Face yourself and get swole.

This is the perfect chance to buff up your writing muscles.

Not every challenge needs to be PVP. Right? The best writing challenges inspire each writer to grow in their craft.

That’s what I love about this challenge—it’s a five-week-long puzzle! Each prompt is an opportunity to think outside the box. To get your gears turning. To see what you’re capable of!

You’ll be sent a new short-story prompt each week, and the word limit is always 1,000 words. And to top it all off? It’s free!

No stress, no cost. Just a five-week workout for your brain (and maybe your fingers).

AND, if you win the challenge (AKA write all five stories), you’ll get mailed a free laptop sticker! And guess who designed that sticker? Yours truly!

Look at his face. How can you say no to that face?

This challenge starts on April 20th, so make sure to sign up before then!

But if you want to get competitive…

If you like some healthy competition, The Company has got you covered.

BONUS 1: When you join, you’ll randomly be assigned to one of three teams. They’ll have some fun surprises (and prizes!) for how the teams compete! And you’re not required to attend, but the teams will meet once per week over Zoom! This is a great, safe way to meet some new writing friends while we encourage and inspire each other.

BONUS 2: You’ll also get exclusive access to weekly writing lessons from Brad Pauquette, bestselling author of The Novel Matrix. By the end of these five weeks, your writing muscles will be flexed and ready for your next project!

BONUS 3: I’m the Managing Editor at The Pearl, and I’ll be keeping an eye on the challenge for rising talent to publish in our magazine.

Don’t miss it!

Whether you want to embrace the team aspect or simply exercise your writing muscles, this challenge is the perfect chance to grow as a writer. It’ll be fun, and the stakes are so low.

And if you’re looking for inspiration…

I wrote a story for one of last year’s Spring Writing Challenge prompts! It’s about the Easter Bunny, who’s very grumpy to have his vacation interrupted by a strange little boy. You can read it for free on The Pearl!

(If I had a nickel for every time I wrote about a grumpy mythical creature having his vacation interrupted by a goofy child, I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird it happened twice. Lol.)
